DIRECT AID PROGRAM


The Australian Consulate-General would like to advise that we are currently seeking applications for funding projects under the Direct Aid Program (DAP) for the financial year 2009-2010.

DAP is a small aid program funded by the Australian Government and disbursed by the Australian Consulate-General. The emphasis of the program is on alleviating basic humanitarian hardship. Examples of development activities under the program include community health, education, small scale infrastructure, sanitation, water supply and rural development projects of poorer communities in southern provinces of Vietnam. In special cases, where humanitarian needs are urgent, DAP may also support disaster relief, subject to available DAP resources.

Should you or any department, organisation or community in your province be interested in applying for our support, please send applications to us by 30 September 2009. Funding is generally limited to USD10,000 per project. Please refer to the enclosed DAP guidelines for detailed information on how to apply.

Each year, requests for DAP funding exceed the program’s capacity; as a result, only the most competitive applications will be funded and we usually are not able to fund more than one project in any one province. Each project will be assessed on its merits according to the DAP guidelines with special attention paid to the cost analysis of each application. Projects that clearly meet the criteria on the application form and that are well-costed will have an advantage. Projects that do not meet DAP guidelines will not be considered. In some cases, we may require further information during the assessment process. We intend to conduct interviews with short-listed applicants and will endeavour to notify successful applicants by mid November 2009.
